On 23 January the Archdiocese hosted at Amigo Hall a highly successful Annual General Meeting (AGM) for the five Catholic academy trusts (CATs) in the diocese.

Chaired by Archbishop John Wilson, the event gathered directors and central teams from each of the CATs, marking a key moment in strengthening the collaborative efforts to serve the educational needs of the Catholic community.

The AGM provided an opportunity for all in attendance to reflect on the past year, share achievements, and engage in discussions around priorities for the future. It was a moment to celebrate the collective accomplishments of the trusts in advancing Catholic education, fostering academic excellence, and promoting Catholic values in schools.

Archbishop John Wilson opened the event with a heartfelt address, thanking all those involved in the success of the CATs for their continued dedication to ensuring that faith-based education remains a pillar of strength and support for children and families within the Archdiocese. He acknowledged the outstanding work of the directors and central teams, who have worked tirelessly to provide quality education rooted in Catholic teachings.

Angela Cox OBE, Director of Education for the Archdiocese, said: "This AGM is a testament to the collaborative spirit of our Catholic academy trusts. We have come together not only to review progress but to set the stage for future growth and innovation in our schools. The work we do here is central to the mission of the Church, and I am proud of all that has been achieved.

“Our Catholic schools are not just places of academic learning, they are communities where faith, compassion, and integrity are nurtured. Together, we will continue to provide an education that reflects the values of Christ and fosters the full potential of every child.”

A key highlight of the meeting was the presentation of the annual reports from each of the five CATs. These reports outlined a year of significant progress in student outcomes, curriculum development, and community engagement. The CATs demonstrated a shared commitment to providing an inclusive and holistic education, embracing the spiritual, moral, and academic development of every student.

The directors and CEOs presented updates on initiatives across the schools, showcasing the successful integration of Religious Education, pastoral care programmes, and community outreach activities. The event also featured discussions on the future direction of Catholic education and the growth of each CAT.

One of the central themes of the AGM was the importance of collaboration and shared learning. The CEOs discussed best practices, the challenges faced in the evolving educational landscape, and how the CATs can continue to work together to overcome obstacles and enhance the educational experience of students with Christ as the central guiding beacon for all.

Archbishop Wilson concluded the meeting by reaffirming his full support for the CATs and their mission. The AGM closed on a hopeful note from Canon Victor Darlington, with a renewed sense of purpose and enthusiasm looking ahead to another year of supporting and educating the young people of the Archdiocese.
